Union Public Service commission (UPSC) holds the Geologists’ Examination every year for recruitment of different Geologist posts like the Geologist, Assistant Geologist, Jr. Hydro geologist, Assistant Hydro geologist posts in various departments of Government of India. The examination will be held at various centers across the country.
UPSC Geologists’ Examination recruits candidates under two main categories described below:

Category-I: Geological Survey of India, Ministry of Mines.
– Geologist, Group ‘A’
– Assistant Geologist Grade-I (Group ‘B’)
Category-II: Central Ground Water Board, Ministry of Water Resources.
– Jr. Hydrogeologists (Scientist-B), Group ‘A’
– Assistant Hydrogeologists, Group ‘B’

Eligibility Required :

(a) Age Limits :Candidates age should be between 21 years and 32 years for Category I Posts (Geologist, Group ‘A’, Assistant Geologist Grade-I (Group ‘B’)) and 21-35 years for Jr Hydrogeologists Post and 21-30 years for Assistant Hydrogeologists posts.

(b) Educational Qualifications : Candidates must be done Master’s Degree in Geological Science or Geology or Applied Geology or Geo-Exploration for Category I Posts, Masters Degree in Geology or Applied Geology or Marine Geology from a university, Master’s Degree in Hydrogeology from a recognised university for Category II Posts.

UPSC Geologists’ Examination Selection Process The selection of the candidates will be done on the basis of written test and interview.

Syllabus for UPSC Geologists Examination :

The standard of the paper in General English will be such as may be expected of a science graduate. The papers on geological subjects will be approximately of the M.Sc. degree standard of an Indian University and questions will generally be set to test the candidate’s grasp of the fundamentals in each subject. There will be no practical examination in any of the subjects.

Candidate will be required to write a short Essay in English. Other questions will be designed to test their under standing of English and workmanlike use of words.
