National Talent Search Examination (NTSE) is a national-level scholarship program organized by National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) every year to recognize students with extremely high intellect and academic talent. These scholarships were awarded on the basis of a written examination conducted by NCERT in schools generally for students of Classes X, XI and XII and separate examinations is conducted for each class.

The examination consists of two parts , namely Mental Ability Test (MAT) and Scholastic Aptitude Test(SAT) . The items in the MAT and SAT are multiple choice questions. Each question has four alternatives. The candidate has to select one correct answer from the given alternatives.

Mental Ability Test (MAT) Questions Pattern:

This test is conducted to judge candidates power of reasoning, ability to think, ability to judge, evaluate or discriminate, ability to visualize in the space, spatial orientation, etc. A variety of questions, for example: analogies, classification, series, pattern perception, hidden figures, coding-decoding, block assembly, problem solving etc. are used for this purpose.

Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) Questions Pattern:

i) Language Test : This test includes the question of reading comprehension, logical sequencing;interpretative, evaluative, predictive and creative components of language. The candidates can attempt language test either in English or in Hindi (as per option of the candidate) in the national level NTSE.
ii) Sciences, Mathematics & Social Sciences : These subject consist questions as per syllabus of the class.

Note: The expected cutoff is 150 for MAT level and 140 for SAT level.

If successful candidates study in Sciences, Social Sciences, Humanities, Languages Commerce, vocational studies and fine arts in future, they are eligible to receive scholarship up to Ph.D. level whereas the candidates studying professional courses in medicines,engineering, technology, management and law, are eligible to receive the scholarship up to second degree level.
